Nigerian Army denies ownership of sophisticated rifles recovered from kidnappers in Rivers State

Nigerian Army has denied ownership of sophisticated rifles recovered from kidnappers in Rivers State.

The Police command in the state, on Friday, said the three Tavor Tar 21 Israeli made rifles were recovered from suspected kidnappers in Ahoada-West local government area of the state.

The police said only the military and the DSS used the type rifle in the country.

But a source within the army, who pledged anonymity said the army might not be responsible for the displacement of the rifles and subsequent landing in the hands of kidnappers.

The sources added that the army has protocols for reporting missing rifles.

Attempts to speak with the army public relations officer, of the 6 division, Port Harcourt, Major Charles Okocha proved abortive as he did not respond to calls or messages sent to his phone for comments.
