NLNG, Rivers State Government and Grand Bonny Kingdom on Monday, inaugurated the Bonny Community Health Insurance Programme, a scheme to ease access to good health care.
The programme which will alleviate major challenge to the access to good health care is finance is a not-for-profit insurance scheme aimed primarily at the informal sector, and formed on the basis of collective pooling of health risks, in which members participate in its management.
NLNG’s GM External Relations & Sustainable Development, Eyono Fatayi-Williams in her remarks said the Health Insurance Programme is part of the company’s efforts to promote good health among the people who are cut off from the mainland by the Atlantic sea.
According to her:
“To actualize the Bonny Health Insurance Programme, a tripartite MoU was signed between the Rivers State Government, Bonny Kingdom and NLNG in February 2019 to define the components and secure government’s endorsement and support for the Programme.
” It is important to state that the Bonny Community Health Insurance Programme aligns with the Bonny-Dubai vision, as well as the United Nation’s vision of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by the year 2030.
Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Ministry of Health, Mrs Caroline Wali, while inaugurating the Board, said that everyone must make sure that the scheme works for the people of Bonny Kingdom.
According to her: “We must cast all barriers aside to achieve this for the people.”
Chairman of the Governing Board is Chief (Dr.) Charles John-Jumbo, a Chief of Bonny Kingdom and a Medical Practitioner.
