Election was peaceful – PDP witnesses tell tribunal

Governor Nyesom Wike has opened his case before the Gubernatorial Election Petition Tribunal in Port Harcourt as the 2nd Respondent in the Election Petition matter filed by Action Democratic party ADP Rivers State chapter seeking to cancel the March 9th governorship election.

The PDP has called nine witnesses so far.

Testifying before the tribunal, Honourable Chinyere Igwe, said he was posted to serve as a local government collation agent for Governor Nyesom Wike and PDP in Port Harcourt Local Government Area, which has 20 wards, stressing that election was successfully conducted, results completely collated at the local government level in PHALGA.

He said further that INEC only suspended collation at the state level when election and collation of results at the polling units, wards and local government level of PHALGA were already concluded successfully.

He confirmed that results collated from the polling units and wards were entered into the EC8C form in his presence, adding that he didn’t get any report of INEC official being arrested for electoral malpractice in PHALGA.

Chief Dan Nsan, Ward Collation Agent for Ward 7, Andoni local government area, testified that election was conducted peacefully at the 18 polling units of Ward 7, adding that results were collated and announced at the Ward level in his presence.

Also testifying, Barrister Emmanuel Chioma, Ward Collation Agent for Ward 3, Ikwerre local government area, testified that election was conducted in the 20 polling units of Ward 3 peacefully, results collated and announced at the Ward level, stressing that he didn’t receive any report from his polling agents that PDP thugs disrupt the electoral process.

Kwani Oforikuma, Ward Collation Agent for Ward 6 in Okrika local government area, told the tribunal that results were collated at the Ward level and the election was peaceful in all the 27 polling units of Ward 6.

Justice KA Ojiako adjourned to 26th of July for continuation.

Our reporter Tina Amanda reports that 2nd Respondent Governor Wike’s witnesses’ testimonies countered that of the Action Democratic Party witnesses, which states that election didn’t hold in Ward 7 Andoni Local government, Ward 6 Okrika local government, PHALGA and Degema local government due to electoral violence.
