The Jewel of Rivers will welcome FC Robo of Lagos at the Yakubu Gowon stadium in Elekahia by 4pm.
Head Coach of Rivers Angels, Edwin Okon said his wards are ready to commence hostilities against their opponents in the Nigeria Women Football League NWFL.
Both sides will be meeting for the first time in the league since October 12, 2017, where the Port Harcourt side won 3-1 at the Legacy Pitch in Lagos.
The Jewel of Rivers has never lost to Emmanuel Osahon side, a record Edwin Okon believes will spur his wards to a convincing win on Wednesday.
“Our focus is as it concerns the league and our first match being at home, we have to approach it with every seriousness,” began Okon.
“The Match against FC Robo is one that we must win convincingly, so I am really not worried at that level.
“We have been preparing for the commencement of this league and it is finally upon us to get this rolling,” he added.
A total of six matches will be played this season after which the Super 4 will set in to produce a worthy champion. This development simply means only one team will qualify from each of the four groups for the showpiece.
The former Super Falcons gaffer, however, believes playing lesser games will definitely make the league more difficult.
“The matches are not many and this makes it very difficult for teams,” Okon went on.
“Only one team is expected to qualify from the group which means every match must be won in other to better your chances.
“We cannot afford to feel relaxed else it will be detrimental but I’m confident we’d qualify from our group,” he concluded.
