The outreach which a brainchild of the Deputy Whip of the Rivers State House of Assembly and Member Representing Akuku-Toru 1 Constituency in the Rivers 9th Assembly, Major M. Jack, will reach out to more than 200 women, mainly widows.

The programme which begins today, Friday, 12 July, 2019 will in the first phase empower over 200 women from across all constituencies in the local government area.

The outreach will provide free medical testing, examination and treatment for the women in the area. It will also provide free eye treatment, medicated glasses, food items as well as cash money to support the women.

According to the organizer and sponsor of the programme, the outreach is but one of his many plans to empower women, especially the widows, in the area.

He said that the outreach is a gesture to thank the women of the area for their support before, during, and after the 2019 elections.

According to him, the outreach is also a fulfilment of his covenant with God and his promise to always support the women, he said.

He stated that women were supportive and steadfast even in the heat of the general elections.

“They proved that they are indeed our mothers. This outreach is to prove to them that they have children and husbands in us,” he said.

The outreach will resume at 10 o’clock at the Multipurpose Hall in Abonnema with a team of ten medical practitioners.
