Civil Defence Officer prevents Judge from delivering judgement in Kebbi (Video)

A video has emerged showing a civil defence officer preventing Honourable Justice Elizabeth Asabe Karatu of the Kebbi State High Court from delivering judgement on the last day of her retirement.

She was due to retire on July 5, 2019.

Justice Karatu who was appointed as the acting chief justice of the state in October 2017, petitioned the National Judiciary Commission, accusing the state governor, Atiku Bagudu, of refusing to confirm her because of her Christian faith.

She said politics of religion and her firm belief in justice and fairness were some of the reasons the state governor denied her rights despite the recommendation of NJC.

She was first presented to the Kebbi State House of Assembly for confirmation as Chief Judge by the Governor of Kebbi State, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu on 2 June 2018 sequel to the recommendation of the NJC.

However, the governor failed to confirm her as the substantive CJ prompting her to petition the NJC.
