Oriental Energy opens scholarships for Akwa Ibom students

An indigenous marginal field operator, Oriental Energy Resources has announced the commencement of applications for the 2019/2020 University Scholarship Award.

The award Scheme is targeted at undergraduate students from Akwa Ibom State, particularly indigenes of Effiat community and Mbo local government area.

The company’s Corporate Communications Officer, Aniwura Omolayo, in a statement on Friday said application form and details of the scholarship scheme had been uploaded on the company’s website www.oriental-er.com under the CSR menu tab in May 2019, adding that entries would close on July 12.

He added that the company introduced online application last year to support the students with a more efficient and cost-effective process.

“Our aim is to support our host communities and the future leaders of Nigeria by giving them a competitive advantage through access to uninterrupted and quality education. Any society or organization is as good as its people. That is why the development of capacity is a focal point of our corporate and social investments,” Head of Community Relations, Uwem Ite, said in a statement.

The scholarship scheme, which is fully funded by the oil production and exploration company, covers the beneficiary’s bachelor’s degree in any course in a Nigerian university.

Applicants are expected to have obtained provisional admission in a Nigerian university. Shortlisted candidates will be invited via e-mail for an aptitude test. Based on test results, the final list of beneficiaries will be published and shared with the community.

More than 500 students in universities across Nigeria have benefited from the scheme since it kicked off in 2009.
