Why Wike has not appointed cabinet members

As the state waits with bated breath for the selection of cabinet members that will help the Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, steer the affairs of the state for another four years, sources have said that fear of unloyalty within Brick House is the reason the governor has not appointed cabinet members.

Recall that Governor Wike had on the 13th of June urged the clergy to pray for God to give him the wisdom to appoint officials that will be committed to the development of Rivers State during his second term.

According to him: “I need your prayers for God to bring to me the right people who will work with me. People who will work with me for the good of our State.

“People do all manner of things these days to manipulate the system. We need God’s guidance for people who will be sincere to work for the state”.

Governor Wike said he is not carried away by congratulations and praises as he remains focused and will never let down his guard.

“I will not let my guard down. I don’t trust anybody totally. This is because circumstances can change anyone. My firm belief is in God, who will never change “, he said.

But sources say that confusion over who gets what is behind the delay in the naming of cabinet members, stressing that the governor does not want to repeat his first-term mistakes.

A source who did not want to be named said that interests within and outside Brick House are piling up adding that some of the former commissioners are lobbying those close to Wike in order to be re-appointed.

He said that a lot of people worked for his re-election and a whole lot of people are also expecting to be compensated for their sacrifice.

According to him, people like Bro Felix Obuah and Austin Okpara are presumed to be very close to Wike and are seen as people who have says in what happens in the state.

He said that they meet regularly in the government house to finetune the list, stressing that the governor seems not to want to make any mistake, that is why he is taking his time.

He explained that the governor knows that the residents are expecting the best from him for the maximum support they gave him, adding that the governor equally does not want to disappoint.

Another source said that due to pressure at the secretariat, the cabinet will be named soon.
