What would have been a monumental disaster was averted on Saturday, the 23rd June when an Air Peace Flight P47291 from Abuja to Port Harcourt skidded off the runway at the Port Harcourt Airport, Omagwa, while landing due to downpour.
Among the occupants of the flight is the senator representing Abia Central in the National Assembly, and former governor of the state T. A Orji.
Sources said the passengers were terrified following the incident.
Theportcitynews gathered that there was no casualty recorded in the incident which occurred at 3.42 p.m.
However, the plane was grounded afterwards to allow investigations into the immediate cause of the incident
The General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs Henrietta Yakubu, who confirmed the incident, said although the Boeing 737-500 aircraft skidded off the runway, the pilot was able to stop the aircraft, adding that in spite of the rain, the undercarriage of the aircraft did not sink into the soil.
This the second incident involving the airline at the Port Harcourt airport in two months.
