The Super Eagles will commence their 2019 AFCON campaign today at Alexandria when they face debutants Burundi.
The Gernot Rohr’s side will be making their first appearance in the competition since winning the title in 2013.
The Super Eagles will be looking forward to a victory as they target their fourth AFCON title in Egypt.
The match will kick-off by 6pm Nigerian time.
In the meantime, Super Eagles Coach Gernot Rohr says the team is not 100 percent fit, but are ready to confront first Group B opponent, the Swallows of Burundi today.
The Swallows who were unbeaten in the qualifiers have a number of big names in their squad, with the duo of Saido Berahino and Fiston Abdoul-Razak the most prominent amongst them.
The Super Eagles are one of the favourites to win the title and will parade some of the best talents on the continent in the competition.
But despite his side’s superiority in terms of playing personnel and technical ability, Rohr states that they will be humble against the Burundians.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has charged the Super Eagles and Super Falcons to go all out to make Nigeria proud at the AFCON and FIFA Women World Cup respectively.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youths and Sports Development Olusade, Adesola said this on Friday in Abuja when organizers of Miss Football Nigeria, an NGO paid him a courtesy visit.
He commended the Falcons for qualifying for the knock-out stage of the 2019 FIFA World Cup in France despite all odds and stressed the need for them to re-double efforts in their next game against Germany.
He said the Federal Government would continue to support them while reiterating the need for them to be dedicated and patriotic.
The permanent secretary also tasked the Super Eagles to be at their best as the 2019 AFCON begins in Egypt on Friday
