Gbajabiamila elected speaker House of Reps

Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila, member representing Surulere Federal Constituency has been elected as the Speaker of the House of Representatives for the Ninth Assembly.

Mr Gbajabiamila who is a candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) defeated his close contender Mohammed Bago with 281 votes.

A total of 358 lawmakers voted, 76 voted for Mr Bago, while there was an invalid vote.

He assumed office in 2003, representing Surelere 1 Federal Constituency.

In 2011, Gbajabiamila contested for the third term on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria and won.

Idris Wase was also elected as deputy speaker unopposed.
