35 persons reportedly die in Imo State from food poisoning


At least 35 persons have reportedly died in Imo State from alleged food poisoning after attending a traditional marriage at the weekend.

The traditional marriage which held in Umuobajiaku, Umuomumu Mbieri, Mbaitoli Local government of the State attracted guests from within and outside the state.

Theportcitynews gathered from local sources that at least 35 persons have been reported dead.

A local source simply identified as Iyke who spoke to theportcitynews on phone said that the numbers are expected to rise.

He said that as at this morning, more than 10 persons were proclaimed dead while at least 15 others were said to be unconscious.

He said that the deaths were initially blamed on generator fumes, adding that guests who attended the event from other places are also reporting casualties.

He said that many have been hospitalized.

In another report by ScreenGist, various local governments in Imo state are under turmoil as family members that graced the occasion are on check through calls and other means.

Police is yet to brief on the situation after calls were put across to the command spokesman.
