Gunmen kill 3 in Rivers Community

It was another distraught situation in Rivers State as residents of Rivers communities go to bed in fear for their lives with killings spreading across the length and breadth of the state.

Unidentified gunmen said to be cultists on Sunday, at about 9 pm invaded Isiodu Community in Emohua Local government killing at least three persons.

Those killed were in the age brackets of 23 and 30 years old. The gunmen also burnt their bodies.

Local sources told theportcitynews that the gunmen picked out their victims and slaughtered them before setting their bodies ablaze.

They informed that the situation sparked fear around the community with many moving out of the community in droves out of fear of further killing.

Andrew Uchendu, the senator representing Rivers East senatorial district in the national assembly described the killings as atrocious, urging the national assembly to intervene in the security crises in the state and other parts of the country.

The senator stated that during the last interaction between the Senate and IGP Adamu, he stated that kidnappings and killings have become a way of life in Rivers State, noting that he is aware that the primary responsibility of any responsive government is the provision of security of life and property of its citizens.

According to him: “In Rivers State, life has become more brutish and worthless, since anybody can be killed, kidnapped or abducted at any time of the day.”

He explained that no meaningful strategy had been put in place to check the killings, adding that traditional rulers who do not have control over the police or army have been asked to checkmate the killings in their respective domains.
