Gunmen abduct 5 Chinese company workers in Rivers State

Unknown gunmen have abducted five oil workers close to the Oil Mining Lease OML-55 operated by Belemaoil Producing Limited in Kula, Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers.

The oil workers, theportcitynews gathered, were personnel of Integrated Data Services Limited, IDSL and BGP, a subsidiary of China National Petroleum Corporation.

They were conducting an ongoing seismic operations at the OML when they were abducted on Tuesday.

The Rivers Police Command through the public relations officer of the command, Nnamdi Omoni, who confirmed the kidnapping to our correspondent, said all hands are on deck to ensure the unconditional release of the oil workers.

He explained that gunboats have been deployed by the military who are in trail of the abductors, stressing that the victims would be released unhurt.

“Yes, I can confirm that five seismic workers were kidnapped two days ago. We have intensified efforts to ensure their release and gunboats have been deployed.

“We are working with other sister agencies, especially the Nigerian Navy and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, to ensure they are released within record time,” the police said.
