Gunmen kill 2 police officers during shoot out in Port Harcourt

Three persons including two police officers and one unidentified gunman were on Sunday night killed during a shoot out between the police and unknown gunmen at DBoss night club at Woji Road.

TPCN gathered that the gunmen stormed the popular hangout in search of an identified person when they met the officers securing the place.

The gunmen immediately opened fire on the officers killing two at the spot while the third police officer fired back killing one of the gunmen and recovering three rifles belonging to two of the dead officers and one belonging to the gunman.

One of the eyewitnesses told theportcitynews that they were there drinking when they all of a sudden started hearing gunshots.

He said: “I have never been this terrified in my entire life. We were drinking inside when we heard gunshots. It lasted for about 30 minutes. People ran to every corner looking for safety”

The Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed that two policemen were killed during the incident.

He added that one of the gunmen was shot dead by a gallant police officer.

He explained that the injured policeman is currently receiving treatment in the hospital.

Omoni said “The incident happened around 10 pm on Sunday. The gallant police officer recovered three rifles; two belonging to the policemen that were killed and one belonging to the hoodlum that he shot dead during the gun duel.

“The policeman was earlier shot in the hand by the gunmen and while he (policeman) was on the ground, the hoodlum, who shot him, came to collect his (policeman) rifle.

“But the police officer saw him coming, used one hand to grab the gun and killed the gunman. He also shot another hoodlum, who was carried away by members of the gang. The policeman repelled that the gunmen, who escaped with their wounded gang members.”
