Gunmen abduct 2 foreigners, Nigerian oil workers in Rivers State

Gunmen suspected to be militants, on Saturday, abducted three oil workers at an oil rig in Rivers State.

Two of the abducted oil workers include one Canadian and one Scottish immigrants. One other Nigerian was also abducted during the attack.

This comes days after two staff of Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC, were abducted at the Ndele axis of the East-West Road on their way to Port Harcourt from Bayelsa State.

The gunmen attacked the rig owned and operated by the Niger Delta Petroleum Resources in Ogbele, Rivers State at around 8 a.m., a statement by the spokesman for the area’s military operations, Major Ibrahim Abubakar, said.

He explained that troops are currently searching surrounding swamps in a bid to rescue the abducted oil workers.
