The then Director, Students’ Affairs and three other staff of Kenule Beeson Polytechnic, Bori in Khana Local Government area of Rivers State are now standing trial for allegedly breaking into an ICT shop belonging to one Augustine Eyiantse.

The defendants who have been charged for malicious damage were said to have unlawfully invaded the shop of the claimant in an attempt to forcefully evict him from the shop.

Shortly after Chief Magistrate Kariba Braide adjourned the case till the 6th and 15th of May 2019, lawyer to the claimant, Barr Kingdom Chukwuezie told our correspondent that the tenement agreement between the school and his client has not expired before the embattled shop was invaded by some staff of the polytechnic.

“My client had no tenement issue with the school before the defendants broke into his shop.

” The illegal act of the defendants in this case resulted to the damage of my client’s business property worth the sum of N7,466, 950 (over 7million naira).

“We are also pursuing a sister matter to this case at the state high court,”

Barr Chukwuezie maintained that the suit brought by his client which has the polytechnic, rector, registrar and other staff of the school as defendants is praying the court to award the sum N500 million against the defendants in the suit in favour of his client.

On his part, the complainant said the polytechnic staff invaded his shop and also beat him up.

He insisted that all he needed at the end of the two matters is justice, adding that the situation has forced him out of business as all his business equipment were destroyed during the invasion.
