SWAN urges South-South Governors to emulate Nyesom Wike

The leadership of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria SWAN in the South-South has advised Governors in the region to emulate Governor of Rivers State Nyesom Wike by encouraging the body in its activities.

SWAN in a communiqué issued at the end of its meeting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom said that sports development cannot be complete without the input of sports writers in the country.

The communiqué also commended Governor Wike for hosting different national and international sporting events in Rivers State which have improved sports development in the country.

SWAN while congratulating Governors in the zone that participated in the just concluded 2019 general election over their victory at the poll urged them to continue to place sports on the priority list of their administration.

The communiqué also commended the other South-South States for playing host to international sports competitions, thereby keeping sports facilities in the zone alive and empowering the economy.

The body also appealed to the initiators of such sporting events to consider training and workshops for Sports Writers in the zone.

The leadership of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria SWAN in the South-South also passed a vote of confidence on the administration of Comrade Honour Sirawoo as the National President and unanimously endorse him for a second term; to enable him to consolidate on his laudable achievements, and entrenchment of professionalism in the conduct of members and practice of Sports Journalism in Nigeria.

COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF SOUTH-SOUTH ZONAL MEETING OF THE SPORTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (SWAN) HELD ON APRIL 16, 2019 AT CLESTAL HOTEL, UYO, AKWA IBOM STATE.

The leadership of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in the South-South comprising the Zonal Vice President, Zonal Secretary, and Chairmen of five states (Cross River “apology”) in the Zone, at a meeting, resolved as follows:

1. Congratulates Governors in the zone that participated in the just concluded 2019 general election over their victory at the poll and urges them to continue to place sports on the priority list of their administration.

2. That Governors/Sports administrators in the zone should emulate Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, by encouraging SWAN and its’ activities in their various states, as planned sports development will be incomplete without the input of Sports Journalists in the zone.

3. Commends the South-South States for playing host to international sports competitions, thereby keeping sports facilities in the zone alive and empowering the economy; urges initiators of such events to consider training and workshops for Sports Writers in the zone.

4. Commends the National President of SWAN, Comrade Honour Sirawoo for repositioning SWAN to an enviable height, and restoring the dignity of the Association at local and international levels.

5. Pass a vote of confidence on the administration of Comrade Honour Sirawoo, and unanimously endorse him for a second term; to enable him to consolidate on his laudable achievements and the entrenchment of professionalism in the conduct of members and the practice of Sports Journalism in Nigeria.

6. Thanks the entire Northern zone of Nigeria for appreciating the achievements of President Sirawoo in less than three years and their continuous support for his leadership; and assures them of similar gesture after the second tenure of the incumbent President.
