Police officer shot as armed gang attacks police post in Igbo-Etche

It was a rain of bullets on Wednesday as an armed gang attacked a police post in Igbo-Etche, Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, shooting a police officer.

The incident which happened at about 2 pm saw residents in the area running for their lives.

The reason for the attack was not immediately clear, however, sources said the attack is not unconnected to the recent wave of cult violence ravaging the state.

Local sources said the gunmen took the police team unawares, adding that the attack sent the officers running for their lives.

Sources say the officer who was shot was declared dead. However, the spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni, did not respond to our enquiries on the matter.
