Court acquits 3 IPOB members in Port Harcourt

A Rivers State Magistrate Court on Wednesday, discharged and acquitted three members of the Indigenous People Of Biafra, IPOB.

The court presided by Chief Magistrate S.I JAJA discharged the trio who were arrested during the September 14 2018 IPOB Sit At Home exercise.

They were amongst hundreds of IPOB members arrested at Obigbo in their homes by the Police.

The trio were charged with Treasonable Felony/Arson which is punishable under Section 41 (c) of the criminal code Cap C38 Laws of Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

They have been in Prison custody since 20th September, 2018 awaiting the DPP’s advice.

Hearing notice was served to the DPP on January 20th 2019, to appear before the court, which he failed to.

The Magistrate said that the DPP having failed to appear before the court, “therefore I hereby discharge the defendants unconditionally and order that they be released from Prison custody with immediate effect”
