Rivers community deserted after cultists kill 8

Unknown gunmen said to be cultists have reportedly killed about eight persons after invading Mgbuodohia community, in Rumuolumeni town in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

Theportcitynews gathered that the gunmen raided houses on Sunday morning unhindered in search of rival cult members.

It was also gathered that the development which caused panic led to residents deserting the community.

Chairman of Rumuolumeni Community Development Committee, CDC, Mr Sunny Odum, while confirming the attack, expressed sadness over the incident.

He said that over eight persons died during the attack in the community, describing it as strange.

Odum, however, assured residents not to panic over the incident, but to go about their normal businesses as security operatives would with the help of the community track down the perpetrators of the crime and bring them to book.

According to him: “This is what we saw this morning. It is a cult related matter. I want to assure the residents here that there is no cause for alarm.

“We have called on residents of the place to remain peaceful because the police and army are on the ground. As for our festival that we will be having, it will still hold.”

Rivers State Police command could not confirm the development as text messages sent to the spokesman of the command, Nnamdi Omoni, were not replied.
