There was commotion at the popular Mile 1 Police Station in Port Harcourt, on Saturday morning April 6, 2019, as a woman identified two suspected armed robbers as men that raped her and her female neighbours during a robbery operation at Afikpo Waterfront Mile 1 Diobu, Port Harcourt.

One Mr Dennison, who spoke to TPCN reporter, explained that “three suspected armed robbers had earlier robbed an old man of the sum of 9,000 naira at Afikpo waterfront before proceeding to Urualla waterfront, all in Mile one Diobu, where they were rounded up by vigilante groups”

Two of the armed robbers were arrested while one ran away, the source revealed.

It was gathered that the two suspects were handed over to the Police.

Mr Dennison told TPCN that after the two robbers were handed over to the Police, over 20 boys belonging to cult groups of the suspects, stormed Afikpo waterfront and told the residents that there will be dire consequences if their two gang members were not released by the Police.

Before now, there have been complaints of armed robbers invading Afikpo waterfront robbing and raping both single and married women.

The development led to the formation of vigilante groups to curtail the rising insecurity in the area

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Nnamdi Omoni, did not respond to request for comments on the matter.

Meanwhile, residents who were earlier at the Police station told TPCN reporter that the suspects have made confessional statements.
