Rivers State House of Assembly suspends deliberations

The Rivers State House of Assembly, after reconvening on Friday, 5th April 2019, suspended deliberations to April 9.

This was following a motion moved by the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule and seconded by the Minority Leader Hon Benibo Fredrick Anabraba for the House to suspend its sitting and defer all matters on the Order Paper to another legislative day.

Hon. Amaewhule urged the House to suspend deliberations as a mark of respect for those who died during the Presidential and National Assembly elections as well as the Governorship and States House of Assembly Elections in Rivers State while trying to exercise their franchise or defend Nigeria’s nascent democracy.

A moment of Silence was also observed by the lawmakers.

He further called on security agencies to be professional in the discharge of their duties and positively support INEC in line with the Constitution and Electoral Act in the forthcoming April 13th, 2019 supplementary elections for the remaining constituencies in the state.

The House was adjourned to Tuesday 9th April, 2019 at 10am.
