Niger Delta Youths warn against shortchanging Niger Delta in oil fields’ revocation

President Muhammadu Buhari has been urged to go about his proposed revocation of oil wells and marginal fields in the Niger Delta region in a manner that the region will not be shortchanged.

A statement signed by national president Niger Delta Youth Movement, NDYM, Comrade Joe Jackson and the Secretary, Comrade Amakuro Isaac said the revocation exercise should be done in a way that would not trigger bitter feelings and crises in the region and other parts of the country.

The youths further enjoined management of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC to commence a youth empowerment program to productively engage youths in the region, adding that governors of the nine member states of the commission should work with the commission for it to achieve a greater result in the development of the region.

“We urge the 9 state Governors of the Region to synergize with the Acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC and other Agencies in the Presidency for the overall development of the Niger Delta Region.

“As a matter of urgent importance, we call on the management of the NDDC to put up Youth Empowerment Programmes for the purpose of engaging the youths of the Region as well as strengthening the relationship between the youths and the Commission.

“While commending the Commission for the Water Hyacinth Project, we call for the implementation of other laudable empowerment programmes that were hitherto suspended, the ground”
