Lecturer shot by SARS personnel during Rivers guber election dies

A lecturer allegedly shot by soldiers during the March 9 Rivers State gubernatorial election, Dr. Ferry Gberege of the Ken Saro Wiwa Polytechnic has reportedly died from bullet injuries.

The election was mired by violence following the intervention from the army and police officers.

A clash between soldiers and police officers at the head office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Port Harcourt on Sunday, March 10, led to the suspension of the election.

Our correspondent gathered that Dr. Gberege until his demise was a senior lecturer at the Ken Saro Wiwa Polytechnic, Bori, Rivers State.

Dr. Ferry Beregbe was also the immediate past Chairman of ASUP, Kenpoly chapter.

He served as a PDP collation agent during the gubernatorial election in Khana.

It was also gathered that SARS personnel stormed the collation centre in Khana and shot sporadically leading to the death of at least 3 persons on the spot.

He died while receiving treatment at St Patrick Hospital Port Harcourt.

His death was made known in the early hours of today, March 16, 2019.

As at the time of filing this report, the family is yet to make any official statement.
