There have been tributes to him by close friends on social media, although the manifest of the plane is not yet made public.
I just got information that Professor Pius Adesanmi, a Nigerian professor with Carlton University in Canada is among those that died this morning on the ill fated Ethiopia airline. On his way to attend the AU ECOSOCC committee meeting in Nairobi. RIP. @pius_adesanmi, @Canada

It is true. AU has confirmed he was on the flight. He was traveling from Canada to Nairobi to attend the AU ECOSOCC meeting, representing the AFrican diaspora. Two of the participants were involved, including another participant from Europe. This is so sad.

While we await official confirmation, based on information available to me, I regretfully inform the Nigerian Twitter community that we’ve lost one of our own, @pius_adesanmi . May the Almighty forgive him for all his sins and accept his soul into paradise.

.@pius_adesanmi I know you had issues boarding from Canada. May God give us that one slim chance that you missed the flight and you are still on your way and will soon call. https://t.co/bWoVQhdB5q
