Army presence in Port Harcourt streets leads to voters’ apathy

Military presence and intimidation by security forces have led low turn out of voters in Port Harcourt.

There are military checkpoints at strategic areas of the town leading to voters’ apathy.

Theportcitynews observed in some polling units visited that the number of voters who turned out to be accredited to vote was lower than the that of the presidential and national assembly election.

Voters who spoke to theportcitynews correspondent blamed the army for the low turn out.

The attributed the apathy on the strategic positioning of soldiers at major intersections in Port Harcourt, adding that some voters were brutalised by military men in the early hours of Saturday.
