Thousands of Rivers women today gathered at the popular Alfred Diete-Spiff Civic Centre at Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, to pray for peace in Nigeria over the ongoing general elections in the country.
The women, who gathered under the aegis of Truvine Women International, also prayed specially for Rivers State and Niger Delta in view of Saturday’s governorship and house of assembly elections.
They prayed that peace should reign in every nook and cranny of the state and country and that those planning to cause violence should meet their waterloo.
Addressing the women briefly before summarizing the prayers, the Coordinator of Truvine Women International, Pastor Mrs Ene Secondus, charged them to remain strong and fearless even in the face of intimidation, assuring them of God’s backing.
She maintained that God was the Supreme Being hence every other person was under him, adding that Rivers State, Niger Delta and Nigeria were in the hands of God.
She said since everybody, including the president of the nation, was born by a woman, the women should have faith in their ability to change people and situations through their prayers, being the channels through which human life came into existence.
Mrs Secondus prayed that PDP candidates should be sworn in after the election on Saturday, in all the states in the South-South and South-East.
Earlier, Pastor Dafini Gogo-Abbey urged the women to come out en masse and vote for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday without fear.
“Nobody has a right to scare you. You have a right to go and vote. Rivers State is a PDP state. This is not a political forum but it is important to note that this present state government has done for us what the previous governments couldn’t do for us,” she told the women.
Pastor Dafini, who is the General Manager of Rivers State Television, reminded the women that for Jesus to perform his first miracle of turning water into wine, the people had to fill the six jars with water first and did not wait for Jesus to fill them. She regretted that today, some Christians sit down and pray and expect God to come and perform wonders for them without them playing their own part.
