The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a soldier in Abonnema, Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State following violence that erupted in the area in the early hours of Saturday.
Nnamdi Omoni, the public relations officer of the command confirmed the development to theportcitynews correspondent on Saturday evening.
Although the identity of the deceased soldier was not revealed, Omoni said that the military authorities had since evacuated his body.
He also said that the police is investigating the immediate causes of violence in the area which led to the death of over 20 persons, adding that the command will bring those responsible to book.
