A University don and Head of Department of Surveyors and Geometrics, Rivers State University, Dr. Lawrence Hart has said the institution is now equipped to train graduates that will be solution providers to the society.
Dr. Lawrence Hart stated this during an interactive session and inauguration of Nigerian Institution of Surveying Students NISS, Rivers State University.
He stated that society is facing numerous challenges and assured that the institution is now more concerned to alleviate the problems facing the country by providing quality education to its students.
The Head of Department of Surveyors and Geometrics, Rivers State University, said the Niger Delta region is experiencing numerous environmental challenges and stated that the institution is already working on alleviating the environmental degradation in the area.
He commended the management of the institution for providing them with the adequate facilities and manpower to deliver on the mandate of the state government to making the institution second to none in the area of science and technology.
The Secretary-General of Nigeria Institution of Surveyors, Rivers State Chapter Ajie Emmanuel urged the students to imbibe the culture of self-development to reach their career goals.
Ajie Emmanuel advised the students to avail themselves for any available training that will boost their knowledge.
He said that they should put excellence first in their endeavours rather than focusing on short cuts to get their results.
The Guest Speaker of the programme Chief Innocent Egbu during his address to the students said that the surveying profession is a diverse profession with many opportunities for the practitioners.
He said the many opportunities abound in engineering, oil industry and consulting.
Innocent Egbu said practitioners will only make it big in the profession when they are specialized in one area.
In his acceptance speech, the newly inaugurated President Nigerian Institution of Surveying Students NISS, Rivers State University Augustus Thankgod promised to make students welfare his priority while in office.
