At least 10 persons have died during a stampede that occurred at the Adokiye Ameisemaka stadium, the venue of the Presidential campaign rally of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State.
Our correspondent gathered that the stampede was caused by police officers who chased away some party supporters over the fear that they might boo President Buhari.
The supporters of the two factions engaged themselves in a scuffle immediately the leaders of the party left the venue.
Recall that the Supreme Court earlier today struck out the appeals filed by the Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi’s faction of the party, leaving the party with no candidates for the elections and widening the discord between party faithful.
It is not immediately clear the exact number of persons that died during the stampede but eyewitnesses claimed that over ten persons perished during the unfortunate incident while many more suffered several degrees of injuries.
