An advocacy group known as Anti Social Vices Club has taken campaign to the Rivers State University, Port Harcourt.
The Coordinator of the group, Chiona Obinuchiwodu said, “for some time now, we have been campaigning in secondary schools and we decided to take our campaign to tertiary institutions.
“We want to tackle vices from academic institutions because the rots in our schools have contributed largely to the crises in our society today.
“The youths need to be sensitized on the dangers associated with cultism, exam malpractices and other forms of criminality.”
On their part, some members of the group in their separate views said the sensitization campaign was needed at this time the nation is about to elect its national and state leaders.
“Election is around the corner. A lot of youths will be deceived by politicians to play the role of political thugs before, during and after the forthcoming elections and we are saying no to thuggery and other vices.
“We don’t want crime and criminality in our society. That is why we have taken up this advocacy drive to the students’ community in order to properly educate them on the need to shun vices and embrace peace.”.
The group which is fully made of up youths said a lot of students have been redeemed from cultism, prostitution and other social vices campaign.
Graduates and undergraduates alike have been caught in robbery, kidnapping among others by security agents.
In their confession to the crime, some blamed joblessness in the country, others said they were lured into crime.
Ignorant of the law is not an excuse. The law will still take its full cause on anyone found guilty of crime.
