Monkeypox outbreak hits Port Harcourt

The Rivers state government has confirmed three suspected cases of Monkeypox in Port Harcourt.

Commissioner for health, Professor Chike Princewill announced this while briefing journalists in Port Harcourt.

The commissioner explained that the cases were discovered on Thursday night at Rumoulumeni, Eneka and Psychiatric road areas of Port Harcourt.

Meanwhile, despite the outbreak in Bayelsa, the state government said it has taken all necessary measures to contain its spread.

At a News Conference in Yenagoa the state capital, Commissioner For Health Ebitimitula Etebu and his Information and Orientation counterpart Daniel Iworiso-Markson further allayed the fears of the people with an assurance
that the virus will be effectively contained.

As a preventive and protective measure, the Commissioners also presented Hand Sanitizers to the Rapid Response Team of the state Ministry of Health.
