Breaking: APC chieftain assassinated in Rivers State

Kas Worgu

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State has been assassinated. The deceased chieftain, Comrade Ogbo Nwafor, was the youth leader of Oghale community in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State as well as a grassroots mobilizer for the APC.

His assassination comes barely a month after another local leader of the party, Jonah Chu was murdered upon arrival back home from a party function in the area on December 24, 2018.

The body of another chieftain, Mr Samuel Wanjoku, who was kidnapped in November along Ubima Omawan road in Ikwerre Local Government Area was recovered in a forest in the local government.

Wanjoku is also the immediate younger brother to the member representing Ikwerre State constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Azubuike Wanjoku.

He was kidnapped with a friend, Moses Ogu while returning from their village in Apani, Ikwerre Local Government on the 12th of November while returning from a political party function.

Theportcitynews gathered that Nwafor was shot dead by unknown gunmen at his residence at Oghale-Eleme at about 1 am on Monday.

Although the reason for the assassination is not yet known, reports from the scene of the crime suggest it is not unconnected with politics as relatives say many not on his side saw him as a big threat to their victory in the forthcoming 2019 elections.

As at press time, the police and family are yet to make official statements as to the death of the deceased.
