PH Cricket league: Benvic, Whales win league openers.

The Benvic Cricket club of Port Harcourt commenced their Port Harcourt Cricket League competition with a victory over K-11 cricket team in their league opener at the Uniport cricket oval.

In the first Innings: Benvic scored 213 Runs for the loss of 7 wickets after 40 Overs while K11 scored 177 Runs All Out after 37 Overs in the second innings.

However, at the end of the game, Benvic cricket team won by 36 Runs.

Kunle Olagunju won Man of the Match award after scoring 54 Runs off 48 Balls.

Michael Davies & Bagshaw Miebaka were the Umpires while Kodjo Timinadi & Kingsley Okpodu took charge of the Scorebook & Scoreboard respectively.

In the other match, Whales cricket club beat Panthers teams with 77 runs to win their first game of the season.

Joseph Edet of Whales Cricket Club won the Man of the Match award after scoring 28 Runs off 32 balls and got 4 Wickets.

The Port Harcourt Cricket league will continue this weekend with round two games in the on-going competition.

The league is one of the initiatives of the Rivers State Cricket Association aimed at developing the sports at the grassroots.

The major targets of the league are primary and secondary schools students who are passionate about the game of cricket.
