Activities marking the 2019 Armed Forces Remembrance Day have commenced today in Rivers State with a Juma’at Service at the 6 Division Mosque, Bori Camp, Port Harcourt.

The Secretary to the State Government, Kenneth Kobani, in a statement to unveil the Activities for the Armed Forces Remembrance Day said there will be an interdenominational church service at Holy Trinity Anglican Church by 10 am on Jan 13th, 2019.

Kenneth Kobani in the statement said the grand finale of the event will hold on Tuesday at the Isaac Boro Park Cenotaph in Port Harcourt.

He said that different activities including Remembrance Day Parade, Shooting of Gun salutes, the release of pigeons and laying of wreaths will all take place during the grand finale.

He encouraged residents of the State to participate in different activities in honour of the sacrifices made by Nigerian soldiers and other security agents who lost their lives while serving the nation.

The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is celebrated each year to honour members of the Nigerian Armed Forces who fought in the first and second world wars, those who served or are still serving in different peacebuilding operations within the nation and globally.
