HYPREP trying to divert clean-up funds – Nsuke

Fegalo Nsuke, the factional President of the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People, MOSOP, has accused the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project, HYPREP and the Federal Ministry of Environment of plans to use funds meant for the clean-up of the Ogoni contaminated areas for the 2019 general elections.

Nsuke, while delivering a speech during the Ogoni Day celebration in Bori, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, said HYPREP is not sincere with its actions as regards the clean-up, stressing that water and integrated soil management centres have not been provided to support the exercise.

Nsuke also promised to engage the Federal Government to ensure that a proper clean-up was carried out in Ogoni.

According to him: “The reality of the Ogoni clean-up is that there are more lies than truth surrounding the exercise.

“If the clean-up is implemented the way it is intended now, it is going to be Nigeria’s biggest scam, because water has not been provided for the people and an integrated soil management centre has not been provided to support the clean-up.

“They want to spend the Ogoni clean-up money on the 2019 general elections and not provide the basic infrastructure or follow the right procedure.

“As the new executive council, we are going to commence engagements to get the clean-up properly focused so that the right thing is done.”
