The Rivers State Police Command, on Tuesday, waded into the crises brewing over the death of Mr Promise Dennis, a 39-year-old man who died on Monday after being neglected by the management of Datta Clinics.

Mr Dennis died on Monday morning after bleeding to death as a result of stab wounds he sustained from a robbery attack.

When taken to Datta Clinics, after two other hospitals rejected him, the Doctor on duty reportedly requested an initial deposit of 25, 000 before he could be attended to.

His sister was contacted and she made a bank transfer of 30, 000 but the hospital reportedly insisted on receiving an alert before they will attend to his wounds. He died a few minutes after.

News of the incident generated widespread anger on the internet on Tuesday with Port Harcourt residents calling for the hospital to be picketed.

However, the police, on Tuesday evening invited the doctor on duty for questioning.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the command, Nnamdi Omoni, told our correspondent that the command is doing all within its power to mitigate against a break down of law and order.

Omoni said that the doctor on duty when the incident took place has been invited and the command will ensure that the incident will be properly investigated.

Also, the Rivers State House of Assembly has reportedly invited the management of the hospital for questioning.
