Foundation donates N20m to flood victims

Mainstream Foundation has donated relief materials worth over N20 million to 13 Ndoni communities ravaged by flood disaster in Rivers State.

The foundation is the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited (MESL), concessionaire of Kainji and Jebba hydropower Generation Companies (GenCos) in Niger State.

It recently donated N100 million to the Niger State Government to help victims of disasters in the state.

The executive director of the foundation, Abdullahi Siraj, shortly after addressing the victims at Ndoni town, yesterday, presented the materials comprising food items and other basic needs to representatives of the 13 communities.

He noted that the Igwuaka of Ndoni, Chief Victor Odili, a director on the MESL board cried out to the company about the flood disaster, adding that Kainji and Jebba dams on the River Niger over-flooded worse than has been experienced in 40 years.

“The board decided to assist with the little relief materials to help victims of the disaster,” Siraj noted.

Speaking at his palace in Ndoni town, Chief Odili said the disaster from the overflooded River Niger affected communities in Rivers up to Bayelsa State leaving huge effects on his subjects.

“MESL decided to assist after they heard what happened to us because of the flood. They have come to see for themselves,” Chief Odili noted.

While calling on the federal and state governments to provide assistance and deal with flood prone issues, he said, “I can tell you that it is over N20 million that MESL has put into CSR and we call on other companies to come to our rescue like MTN did last week.”

He further called for action on the ozone layer in the Nigerian Delta. Our reporter observed over six oil rigs flaring gas around the oil producing area.
