As one of the steps to encourage business development and investment in Bayelsa State, the Senator representing Bayelsa Central senatorial district, Senator Emmanuel Paulker, has donated the sum of N10 million and five plots of land to Igbo Traders Association in the state.
Paulker, who is currently serving his third term in the National Assembly, said the cash donation will help the body to form a cooperative society in order to boost their businesses.
Represented by the national president, Ohaneze Ndigbo youth wing, Dr Author Obiora, the Senator disclosed that he had earlier donated plots of land to Igbos youths.
He stated that the gesture is to demonstrate the unity of Nigeria despite where one comes from, noting that Igbo people and other Nigerians residing in Bayelsa State have added values to the entrepreneurial investment in the state and need to be encouraged.
He said: “My donation has no political entanglement, I am not contesting, off course you know Bayelsa is not doing governorship election in 2019, but as a serving senator, I just develop my love for Igbo people doing business here, that is why I have to encourage them to do more.”
The South-South Coordinator of Ohanaeze Indigbo Young Wing, Chief Author Chinedu Ugwa, commended Senator Paulker, for the gesture of setting up the cooperative scheme for Igbo people in the state through the donations.
He added that the cooperation will concentrate on the betterment of all Igbo traders, explaining that Igbos dominated major markets in the state.
He called for unity of Nigeria, no matter which state one found himself, saying Nigeria will have accelerated development when everybody lives like brothers and sisters.
