2018 SWAN Henry Kalio Cup kicks off in Port Harcourt

The much awaited annual Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Henry Kalio Cup will kicked off on Monday, November 26 by 3pm, at the Sharks Stadium, Garden City of Port Harcourt.

The annual event saw FRCN Treasure FM winning the last edition held last year while the state-owned TV station, RSTV were the first runners-up.

This year’s event which has been slated to hold between Monday November 26 and December 13 2018 has ten teams participating including newcomers Megalectrics Group – the owners of Naija FM, Beat and Classic FM joining in the race to become champions.

Other teams include the East-West road millionaires AIMs Group of Cool WazobiaInfo, their neighbours Today Fm, Old warhorse Peter Abaje’s DAAR Group (AiT/Raypower), highly gingered Wave FM, the Scholars UST Excell Fm, The Old guards Correspondents Chapel, Federal government owned NTA PH and RSTV.

The event is used as a fun, performance enhancement and networking avenue for all SWAN members who hardly have time for themselves as a result of the demands of the enviable profession

And on another side, it is also played in honour of one of their own – the late Henry Kalio who passed on while on duty.

This year’s is going to be filled with pump and pageantry. An awards night slated to happen after the final match will see some members of the association as well as winners of different prices such as MVP, Best Goalkeeper, Best Behaved Team, Highest Goal scorer etc being rewarded and awarded.

Fans also stand chances to win various gifts including recharge cards, branded Nigerian club jerseys, lunch and more. They only have to turn out at the stadium to watch the Sportswriters #PlayTheTalk

Tunde Bello the CEO of the Organisers, Corporate PH6 who made this known has also praised the RIVERS state SWAN for their resilience to make the 2018 event happen.

He appreciates the chairman, Soni Uboh and the excos, as well as the Chairman of the LOC, retired FIFA badged referee Solomon Wokoma and his team who he has had a good working relationship with ensuring a successful competition.

He is, however, soliciting and inviting CORPORATE organizations and individuals who want to sponsor any team or the event in full or part to come forward. He promises them value for money as this is also an avenue to get mileage.

Monday’s fixtures will see defending champion Treasure FM take on Wave FM in the game’s opener and CoolWazobiaInfo against UST by 4pm and 5pm respectively.
