Lack of proper mapping responsible for kidnapping in Nigeria-Surveyors

The Association of Private Practice Surveyors of Nigeria APPSN says lack of proper mapping in the country is responsible for kidnapping and insurgency in some parts of the country.

The Chairman of Association of Private Practice Surveyors of Nigeria APPSN Rivers State Chapter Baridi Legabra during the inauguration of new executives in Port Harcourt, said the association is ready to partner with security agencies to tackle security challenges in Nigeria.

“The country is under-mapped. If the country is properly mapped, it will enable you to know where to place the surveying facilities. That is why kidnappers, armed robbers, and terrorists are having swell time in Nigeria because of lack of proper mapping.

“If we have a proper mapping of Rivers State, with a GPS we can monitor everything happening around the area with surveying tools. The tools could be used to track kidnappers, thieves and even terrorists as it is being done in other western countries. There is no proper mapping in the whole country not only Rivers State alone” he said.

The Baridi Legabra also said that surveyors are better equipped to tackle environmental problems in the country.

He said that the inability to involve surveyors in construction projects is responsible for the flooding we are witnessing currently in Nigeria.

Baridi Legabara stated that surveyors will continue to contribute their quota in national development by maintaining professionalism in all their surveying endeavours.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee of APPSN Chikezie Elekwa advised the new executives of the body to provide quality leadership to humanity.
