Nwanosike calls for Buhari’s intervention over security challenges

Samuel Nwanosike, the chairman of Ikwerre Local Government area has called on President Mohammadu Buhari and the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris to intervene in the rising security threat bedeviling the area.

Nwanosike lamented that his local government is under siege by criminals who have made doing business in the area difficult.

The chairman who made the assertion during a press briefing at the council headquarters in Isiokpo, however, pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari to order the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to make deployment to save the worsening security situation in the area.

Recall that the chairman escaped death when unknown gunmen attacked a team of Peoples Democratic Party faithful who were on a sensitization exercise at Ipo. Two persons were killed while so many others sustained severe injuries.

The LGA chair identified the criminals allegedly terrorising the area as Schoolboy, and Gunboat among others, saying that the gang has killed many persons in the area and destroyed several property.

He said the gang carries out kidnap activities on Omerelu-Imo State Road, Apani-Ubima, Elele-Isiokpo, and has become a terrorist group.

He urged the president to take swift action and improve security in the area.
