Ikwerre LGA chair, Wanosike, survives assassination attempt

Yet to be identified gunmen attacked the venue of a PVC Sensitization programme in Ipo, Ikwerre Local government area of Rivers State, leading to the death of one person and several others injured.

Engr Samuel Wanosike, the Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, was said to have narrowly escaped death in the attack.

Commander of the Joint Task Force deployed to Ikwerre Local Government, who confirmed the incident to said the unknown gunmen ambushed the Chairman and other PDP Leaders in Ikwerre Local government.

The Chief Press Secretary of Samuel Wanosike, Mr Chris Omodu said the incident has been reported to the Police.

He said: “While we were on the ground of our sensitization rally, we started hearing gunshots. Before we knew it, we saw the boys approaching us and shooting directly at us.

“They went straight to the car of the LGA Chairman and started shooting him but thank God his vehicle is bullet-proof if not, he would have been killed by now.

“Many people were hit with bullets during the shooting and one person is already dead. We went straight to the Igwuruta Police station to report,” he said.
