We will not use incident forms in 2019 -Rivers Rec

Okenyi Kenechi

The Rivers State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Obo Effanga, has assured voters of the efficiency of the card readers in that will be deployed for the 2019 general elections in the state.

Effanga gave the assurance when he addressed newsmen in Port Harcourt on Wednesday to sensitize the public on what the commission has achieved so far.

He said that the card readers have been enhanced and upgraded to avoid the pitfalls of previous elections.

He stressed that only voters with their card read by the readers would be eligible to vote during the elections.

“As a body, we are prepared to ensure that only electronically accredited voters are allowed to vote in the elections.

“Our intention is to ensure that the numbers of voters captured by the card reader will equal the total votes cast at the end of voting,’’ he said.

He said that the decision was to ensure honesty and fairness in the conduct of the elections, adding that “there will be no use of incident forms.

“So, we will not go back to past experiences where perhaps, 20 persons were accredited using the card reader and another 100 persons accredited through incident forms.

“There will be no room for unregistered persons to be allowed to vote through the use of incident forms for accreditation.’’
