Abandoned dead baby: Police arrest 20 in Diobu

Police Command in Rivers state have arrested 20 persons over the discovery of a dead newborn baby abandoned at a refuse disposal in Diobu.

Police arrived the scene of the incident on Sunday, specifically at Kalahari/Udi Street, Mile 1, Diobu, Port Harcourt, and arrested more than 20 persons.

It was gathered that upon arrival, police arrested the suspects before taking the baby’s corpse away.

The baby was found in the morning around 8.00am, but the police came around 1.00pm with their van and began arrest.

Some of the residents who spoke to theportcitynews said they were shocked over the development.

They said the police arrested people that were returning from the church, together with some taxi drivers, who were loading their vehicles, and some residents inside their houses.

Residents who said they called the police to inform them of the incident, expressed shock over the decision of the police to carry out mass arrests, adding those that have returned said they bailed themselves out with N15,000 each.
