….Blasts Rivers Ijaw Forum
The south-south zonal secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Dave Okumgba, on Thursday, described the declaration by some Ijaw Leaders under the auspices of the Rivers Ijaw Forum, RIF, in support of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, as a stomach induced statement.
Okumgba, in said that it is indeed worrisome that “these so-called Ijaw elders’ would blatantly lie to the Ijaw race, in a bid to protect their source of livelihood.
Theportcitynews reported that the Rivers Ijaws Forum, on Friday, at the government house, Port Harcourt, endorsed governor Nyesom Wike for another term in office and the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar.
According to the APC scribe, Wike’s reign as governor has only exposed citizens to untold hardship and frustration.
He said noted that Wike’s predecessor completed 500 world class schools each with 20 classrooms costing N3.1 Billion each and equipped them with ICT facility, modern library, science laboratory, football field, basketball pitch, volleyball pitch and nursery playground, built 147 primary health centres across 23 local government areas, with three tertiary healthcare facilities in Port Harcourt city local government area, amongst several roads, bridges and other social amenities.
Okumgba noted that despite constructing these people-oriented projects, his successor Wike has successfully abandoned these feats in pursuit of his (Wike’s) personal agenda of enriching himself and his cohorts.
Okumgba challenged members of the group to disclose the wealth they acquired during the reign of former President Goodluck Jonathan, vis-à-vis the projects they attracted to the Ijaws in the State.
He noted that these Ijaw elders refused to agitate for the development of the Niger Delta Region, particularly Ijaw communities when an Ijaw President was in authority and rather misled Jonathan into empowering them.
Okumgba stressed that these Ijaw leaders were unable to attract any project to their various communities because they do not have any interest whatsoever in the well-being of their people.
He reiterated that only facts can supersede fiction and propaganda and charged them to outline developments carried out in Ijaw communities by the Wike led state government, which has centred its projects in Obio/Akpo and Port Harcourt city local government areas, contrary to his predecessor’s achievement of spreading government projects across 23 local government areas in the state.
