The Deputy Vice-captain of the Volleyball section of Port Harcourt club 1928 Engr. Wellington Havorke has advised youths in Niger Delta to embrace sports as a profession.
Wellington Havorke stated this during a friendly match between the volleyball section of Port Harcourt Club 1928 and Shell Spikers volleyball club of Port Harcourt.
He said that sports will enable the youths to achieve greater heights in their lives, adding that sportsmen and women are the most respectable people around the world.
Havorke stated that sports engage the minds positively, stating that those that engage in it will not have time to take part in societal ills like kidnapping, cultism and armed robbery.
He revealed that the partnership between Port Harcourt club and Shell Spikers is to develop the game of volleyball in Rivers State.
The Deputy Captain of Shell Spikers Volleyball club Efeoghene Ori-Jesu said the collaboration between the two clubs will create more awareness about the sport in the state.
He also thanked Port Harcourt club for hosting the friendly match.
In his remark, a volleyball legend in the state, Christian Udeogu said the partnership between Port Harcourt and Shell Spikers will revive the sports in the state.
He stated that much is not heard about volleyball in Rivers State and said that such a move will enable young ones to embrace the sports.
He also advised them to take the game to secondary schools where they can get younger players.
Christian Udeogu also urged the Rivers State volleyball Association to do more by organizing friendly games, seminars, and tournaments among clubs and volleyball lovers in the state.
