Rivers Angels defeats Confluence Queens with 3-0

Rivers Angels Football Club have defeated Confluence Queens of Lokoja three-nil on Wednesday to continue her winning streak in the Nigeria Women’s Football League NWFL at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt.

The Port Harcourt based side, opened the scoring in the 14th minute via an own goal.

In the 56th minute, Cecilia Nku doubled the lead with a long-rangefinish which left Christy Ohiaeriaku helpless.

Rivers Angels sealed things up in stoppage time through Juliet Sunday who acrobatically finished home after a Cecilia Nku free kick deflected off the wall.

Head coach of Rivers Angels, Edwin Okon said he was delighted with the win.

“I am really happy with the win and the three points we got today,” said Okon.

“The league is still very tight even if we have just 3 matches to the end of the season.

“We have two more matches to play on the road and our ability not to drop any point will be crucial to the team,” he stated.

On his part, assistant coach of Confluence Queens, Sabo Okala said Rivers Angels deserved the victory.

“The game was a very wonderful one and you know that in football, the scoreline matters, it was a heavy defeat,” he began.

“The goals we conceded were cheap ones and as a coach, I look at the way the goals were scored.

“But credit must go to Rivers Angels because they deserve the victory,” Okala added.

Rivers Angels have now returned to the top of the log in Group A with 24 points after their resounding victory against Confluence Queens.

The team will now shift their attention to the Aiteo Cup final against Ibom Angels
