Rivers APC Senatorial Primaries: Uchendu, Ngofa, Asita emerge winners


Ahead of the 2019 general elections, the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), held its senatorial primary elections across the three senatorial districts of Rivers East, Rivers South-East and Rivers West.

At the end of the exercise, Sen. Andrew Uchendu (Rivers East), Amb. Oji Ngofa Rivers (South-East) and Hon. Asita Honourable (Rivers West) emerged winners, with 1632 votes, 1914 votes and 2993 votes respectively, beating their opponents, Chief Allwell Onyesoh (Rivers East, 17 votes),Barr Sunday Mba (Rivers South-East, 1 vote), Miko Bernard (Rivers West, 120 votes) and Nwokocha Onyekachi (Rivers West, 0 vote).

Announcing the results at the Rivers State APC secretariat, Aba Road, Port Harcourt, chairman of the election committee, Victor Eboigbe,said: “First of all, let me start by thanking everybody, the voters, the aspirants, for a job well done and very peaceful election.

“We have come to the conclusion and tonight, we will announce the results. We have the results for senate; we have for the House of Representatives; we have for the House of Assembly. Because we don’t have much time, we’re gonna announce that of the senate and other ones we will release to the press. We will begin with Rivers East.

“Number of accredited voters was 1800. Total votes cast: 1800. Valid votes: 1649. Invalid votes: 151. The aspirants were Hon. Allwell Onyesoh and Sen. Andrew Uchendu. Hon. Onyesoh scored 17 votes; Sen. Uchendu scored a total of 1632 votes. Having returned the highest number of votes, Sen. Andrew Uchendu is hereby declared elected as candidate of the All Progressives Congress for Rivers East.

“Rivers South-East senatorial district: number of accredited voters: 2047. Total votes cast: 2047. Valid votes: 2025. Invalid votes: 22. Barr Sunday Mba recorded 1 vote; Mr Miko Bernard: 110 votes; Amb. Oji Ngofa returned 1914 votes. Oji Ngofa, having returned the highest number of votes cast, is hereby declared the winner of this contest for Rivers South-East Senatorial District.

“The next is Rivers West Senatorial District. Number of accredited voters: 3231; total votes cast: 3018; valid votes: 2993; invalid votes: 25. The aspirants were: Mr Nwokocha Onyekachi, who recorded zero (0) vote; Hon. Asita Honourable recorded 2993 votes. Hon. Asita Honourable, having returned the highest number of votes cast, is hereby declared the winner of Rivers West Senatorial District.
